FAQ
Can I order if I am outside the US
What is Petite?
Petite is actually a term that refers to height rather than weight, and more specifically, referring to anyone 5'5'' and under. In petite clothing, it must be properly proportioned down from head to toe, rather than left to right as it is commonly misunderstood. Petites also have very similar bust-waist-hip measurements as the "average" height woman.
Do regular sized (meaning not petite sized) clothing fit women 5’5′ and shorter?
Unfortunately, because we have a shorter torso and shorter legs, we cannot wear regular clothing without hiring a tailor for major alterations. With many pieces, especially blouses and dresses, simply shortening the hem is not enough. Even though we may have the same bust and hip measurements for a garment in a regular size, the sleeve length, torso length, proportions in lapels and pockets, inseams, and even dart placement will be significantly off, making a well fitted "look" impossible.
What percentage of the US female population is petite?
In reality only about 3% of women are 5'9'' or taller, over 40% of the population are 5'5'' and under, with 25% being 5'1'' or less. This is a very large gap that the media tries to disguise with their amazon-like models since a large majority of designers and high luxury brands only cater to the "average" woman. But many women in the Hollywood light are in fact petites, including Shakira, Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, and Elizabeth Taylor.
Why don’t traditional ‘petite sized’ clothing fit properly?
Manufacturers and clothing companies simply shrink down their garments into a size xxxs and label it ‘petite’. They don’t understand that only raising the hem on pants and skirts is not solving our issues with fit.
Where are The 16th Bar garments manufactured?
We are proud to say every piece we manufacture is made right here in Los Angeles in the good old USA. We pride ourselves on great quality, great fit, and building our community.
How tall are the models for The 16th Bar?
In the fashion industry, a runway model who is 5'7" is considered a 'petite' model. We at The 16th Bar only accept models who are 5'5" or shorter and are a positive role model to their community. We do not believe in 'walking hangers', and consider our spokesmodels as part of our family.
